It takes a Village to support one person
The Village at Incarnate Word is a 501 c (3) non-profit corporation and qualified to receive charitable gifts. Our mission derives from our founders, The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, who first answered a call for help for San Antonio by building Santa Rosa Infirmary in 1869 when a terrible epidemic of cholera threatened the lives of its citizens. As the need for children who had lost their parents during this time, the Sisters established St. Joseph’s Orphanage. When the need for education came, the Sisters established Incarnate Word College, now The University of the Incarnate Word. When the need arose for housing and providing retirement options and care for older adults, the Sisters answered with The Village at Incarnate Word and Sisters Care at The Village. Their continuing service in health care, education and social services spans over 135 years.
