Wellness programs – celebrating lives and healing spirits.

Created in the image and likeness of God, we value many different forms of wellness. Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence within the mind, body and spirit. Listed below are some of the social programs you can look forward to.

Health & Wellness Courtesy Nurse

Our friendly staff is ready to assist you. The main objective of our Health and Wellness Courtesy Nurse is to provide educational and referral services so that residents maintain overall well-being, cultivate an environment for a healthy lifestyle and/or obtain services to maintain one’s independence.  

Services provided:

•    Assists residents in overall well-being activities.
•    Upon request, obtain vital signs which include blood pressure, pulse & temperature as needed in Wellness
     Courtesy Nurse Office.
•    Upon request, explanation to resident and/or family in administration of medication.
•    Coordination of resident support services such as:  
    —Assistance in obtaining health related equipment & supplies (Supplies obtained by
       The Village at Incarnate Word will be billed to resident’s room
    —Obtain medical specialists for clinic
    —Refer residents to appropriate local health care providers
    —Coordinating and/or providing educational training in health related matters
    —Assistance in obtaining in-home services and providers

Monthly Educational Wellness Lectures 

A full range of lectures are offered, focused on a variety of wellness related topics such as fall prevention, apartment safety, safe driving strategies, cancer prevention, healthy cooking, stress management and more!

Fitness Programs

Better Balance

A balance exercise/activity class to help improve balance, strength, and flexibility. Strength and flexibility are necessary for balance control, because when the body is in danger of falling, fast and sometimes powerful movements of the legs, arms, and torso are usually needed to reposition the body to prevent the fall.

Chair Exercise

A form of exercises performed slowly through a full range of motion involving all major muscle groups.  Work muscles by using a whole variety of upper body, and lower body exercises using a variety of fitness equipment as you sit to be fit.

Cardio Fitness

Aerobic activity incorporated with physical conditioning (lifting weight). The body is exercising many transitions at a given time. (Limited class, only ten residents per session)


Mind, body, breathing exercises that help improve levels of strength, balance, flexibility, muscle tone,
stamina, and well-being.

Water Exercise

Water exercises that incorporate improvement in cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, muscular endurance, and muscular strength. Helps relieve back pain, muscle pain, and joint pain.

Tai Chi Chih

A light stretching and meditation exercise to improve both physical and spiritual health, led by Sr. Alice Holden.

St. Joseph’s Chapel: Monday through Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
                                    Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
Extended Care:          Monday through Saturday at 10:00 a.m.

Celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

St. Joseph’s Chapel: Quarterly.
Angelique House and Extended Care: Monthly.

Celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation

St. Joseph’s Chapel: Twice a month at 10:40 a.m.
Angelique House and Extended Care: Once a month.

Ecumenical Prayer Service

Assembly Room: 3rd Monday of the month at 3:00 p.m.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Adoration Chapel (3rd Floor): Daily from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. St. Joseph’s Chapel: 1st Friday and 1st Sunday of the month, after the Mass and until 3:00 p.m.

Rosary Recitation

St. Joseph’s Chapel: Monday through Friday at 4:15 p.m. (unless otherwise noted).

Centering Prayer Group

Pierre House 4th Floor Parlor on Fridays at 3:30 p.m.

Always check for notices on the main bulletin board of the areas you reside and the elevators for changes in schedules as well as other opportunities available throughout the year.

 We are blessed to have three religious working together as members of our Spiritual Life Office Team.
Their offices are located in rooms 229 and 231 of Pierre House.

A Chaplain is available for confessions, visits with the sick, anointing and/or any other Sacramental needs of the community and he presides at most of our liturgies. His schedule and office hours are posted on the main bulletin board and the board outside his office. In case of emergency, you may have the front desk receptionist page him for you.

Therese is entrusted with preparing and coordinating our various liturgical celebrations as well as assisting with other resident events. If you have been active in your parish as a Greeter, Lector, Altar Server, or Eucharistic Minister and wish to continue participating as such here at The Village, or have never participated in any of these ministries and would be interested in beginning to do so, please see her.

Connections Community Outreach Program

Connections Community Outreach Program focuses on a holistic approach to health and wellness and is designed to enhance the mind, body and spirit of those served. The primary goal is to promote the concept of healthy living. Connections provides education, family caregiver support and information, nutrition, illness prevention and self-care as well as dance, exercise, creative arts and friendly game competition. These services are provided at little or no cost to the greater San Antonio community.
